The median home price in California has reached $868,150 for September 2024 (data compiled by the California Association of Realtors – CAR.) That’s a 2.9% increase, year to year, from September 2023, when the median home price in the state was $843,340. The housing market saw 253,010 existing home sales, which represents a 5.1% increase year-over-year (YTY) and a 0.9 % increase year-to-date (YTD). The unsold inventory index stood at 3.6 months, reflecting a 28.6% increase year-over-year. Additionally, the median number of days homes spent on the market was 24 days, a 33.3% increase from the same period last year.

The counties with September’s highest median prices are all in the Bay Area:

  • San Mateo County: $2,100,000
  • Santa Clara County: $1,927,500
  • Marin County: $1,750,000
  • Orange County: $1,397,450

The counties with the next highest median prices are:

  • Alameda County: $1,267,500
  • Santa Cruz County: $1,300,000
  • San Francisco County: $1,266,250
