The median home price in California has reached $888,740 for July 2024 (data compiled by the California Association of Realtors – CAR.) That’s a 3.4% increase, year to year, from August 2023, when the median home price in the state was $859,800. The housing market saw 262,050 existing home sales, which represents a 2.8% increase year-over-year (YTY) and a 0.5 % increase year-to-date (YTD). The unsold inventory index stood at 3.2 months, reflecting a 33.3% increase year-over-year. Additionally, the median number of days homes spent on the market was 22 days, a 25.7% increase from the same period last year.

The counties with July’s highest median prices are all in the Bay Area:

  • San Francisco County: $1,528,500
  • San Mateo County: $1,900,000
  • Santa Clara County: $1,851,830
  • Marin County: $1,450,000

The counties with the next highest median prices are:

  • Orange County: $1,400,000
  • Santa Cruz County: $1,300,000
  • Alameda County: $1,272,500
