The median home price in California has reached $861,020 for December 2024 (data compiled by the California Association of Realtors – CAR.) That’s a 5% increase, year to year, from December 2023, when the median home price in the state was $819,820. The housing market saw 268,180 existing home sales, which represents a 19.8% increase year-over-year (YTY) and a 4.3 % increase year-to-date (YTD). The unsold inventory index stood at 2.7 months, reflecting a 3.8% increase year-over-year. Additionally, the median number of days homes spent on the market was 31 days, a 19.2% increase from the same period last year.

The counties with September’s highest median prices are all in the Bay Area:

  • San Mateo County: $1,844,000
  • Santa Clara County: $1,810,000
  • Marin County: $1,558,000
  • Orange County: $1,362,000

The counties with the next highest median prices are:

  • Santa Barbara County: $1,275,000
  • Santa Cruz County: $1,255,000
  • San Francisco County: $1,200,000
